Smitty by Coty was released in 1976. When it was released, many believed that the fragrance was released as a competitor to 1970s popular fragrance from Revlon, Charlie.

However, no one ever really found out what the inspiration behind the fragrance name was.

In July 2022, Smitty by Coty had already been discontinued for years. In light of the changes of trends and fads in fragrances, it is easy to assume that as the 1970s gave way to the 1980s, which gave way to the 1990s, and so forth, Coty decided to discontinue the fragrance without any fanfare.

At the time of the fragrance’s release, it was touted as a luxury designer fragrance, which is hard to believe today, given its interesting name.
A detailed breakdown of the fragrance’s note composition shows that it had top notes of grapefruit, bergamot, and aldehydes; middle notes of galbanum, Bulgarian rose, spices, and flowers; and base notes including vetiver, oakmoss, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, and ambergris.
In light of the fact that the fragrance has been discontinued, there are numerous online stores that sell Smitty, describing it as “never been opened.”
Potential buyers should always take this with a pinch of salt, as people may be selling a fake perfume and verifying it is difficult, considering that the fragrance was popular in the 1970s.

Another fragrance that is compared to Smitty by Coty is the 2016 flanker, Linda Summer, by O’ Boticário.
The fragrance is a floral fruity fragrance for women with main accords of fruity, citrus, musky, and sweet. The note profiles of the scent include top notes of peach, tropical fruits, bergamot, lemon, and pear.
The middle notes are orange blossom, peony, narcissus, jasmine, and violet; and the base notes include musk, sandalwood, and amber.
The fragrance is not widely available as it is touted as a dupe of the luxury designer fragrance by Giorgio Armani, Armani Code for women, which was released in 2006 and is currently available on Amazon.
3. Signature Summer Legacy by Coach
Signature Summer Legacy by Coach was introduced in 2013. The floral woody musk fragrance is another example of the simplicity of the note compositions of the fragrances that defined the 1970s.
The notes of the Signature Summer Legacy by Coach include floral notes, citruses, woody, and musk. However, to the nose, the fragrance is a fresh floral scent and the musk is a prominent note throughout the dry down.
