Hugo Boss Orange is now called Hugo Boss The Scent since Hugo Orange and Hugo Green have been discontinued; below we share similar perfumes to try out.
In 2009, Hugo Boss released the Boss Orange perfumes for women, then in 2011, the designer brand launched the Hugo Boss Orange eau de toilette for men, which corresponded with the brand’s youthful clothing line of the same name.
However, when the company decided to discontinue the Orange and Green clothing ranges, it meant that the signature scent for the clothing line was also discontinued.
The Boss Orange fragrance was repackaged and given a new name, but the fragrance has since been criticised for a number of reasons, therefore, you may want to try out other, similar fragrances.
Hugo Boss discontinues Boss Orange and Boss Green
In 2016, Hugo Boss confirmed the news that it was going to discontinue some of its brands in order to focus on its two core brands, Hugo and Boss.
This meant that the Boss Orange and Boss Green ranges, both the clothing lines and supporting fragrances, would be discontinued in their original form.
They were then co-opted into the two remaining core brands. At the time, the official word from Hugo Boss stated:
“In Boss and Hugo we have two strong brands with their own identity, which appeal to different target groups. With Boss we want to be the most desirable brand in the upper premium segment. Positioning Hugo in future as a progressive brand with an attractive value proposition will open up extra growth possibilities for us.”
Perfumes similar to Hugo Boss Orange
After the discontinuation of the clothing brand and its supporting fragrances, Boss Orange by Hugo was renamed Hugo Boss The Scent.
Ironically, the renaming of the fragrance was a better brand positioning, as the initial name, Boss Orange, was somewhat misleading.
This is as the fragrance had nothing to do with orange and had no orange scent profiles, but it was only named that because the fragrance was the signature scent for Boss Orange.
On the other hand, Boss Orange by Hugo Boss for women did have orange scent profiles, but both fragrances have been criticised for having lacklustre projection and longevity properties. This was exacerbated by the hefty price tags of these perfumes.
A detailed breakdown of the fragrances is outlined below:
| Fragrance | Boss Orange for women | Boss Orange for men |
| Top notes | Red apple | Red apple and coriander |
| Middle notes | African orange flower and white flowers | Incense and Sichuan pepper |
| Base notes | Vanilla, sandalwood, and olive tree | Vanilla and woodsy notes |
| Sillage | Moderate | Moderate |
| Price |
Because of the fact that both fragrances lack in sillage, longevity, and their projection properties, many people seek similar fragrances to purchase, that would remind the seller of the fragrances but perform better than the Boss Orange perfumes for women or men.

Can I still buy the Boss Orange original design?
Unfortunately, the original bottle design of the Boss Orange for men has been discontinued after the discontinuation of the Boss Orange fashion line by Hugo Boss.
However, the bottle is still widely available from online retailers. However, buyers should be cautioned to be aware of online and bidding sites that sell fake versions of the original.
Therefore, it is important to ensure that you verify the authenticity and track record of the online stores from which you decide to purchase the original bottle design of the Boss Orange for men or women.
