Kat Von D’s Saint and Sinner fragrances were discontinued a second time after the company was purchased by Kendo Brands back in 2020.
In recent years we have seen how profitable the beauty industry can be for already established media personalities.
The result being more and more popular celebrities entering into the market and focussing their efforts at growing their brand, rather than focussing on the craft which earned them the acclaim.
One of the celebrities which capitalised on their fame and launched a beauty range was reality television personality and businesswoman Kat Von D.
In partnership with Sephora, Von D launched a makeup line and subsequently perfume line, including perfumes Kat Von D Saint and Sinner, which as of 2020, were discontinued for the second time.
What happened to Kat Von D’s beauty brand?
In 2008, Kat Von D released her makeup line with Sephora under her name. This also included the release of her fragrances, but in 2020, the reality star and businesswoman decided to sell off her successful beauty and make up brand to Kendo Brands.
Following the acquisition by Kendo Brands, the company would change the name of the brand to KVD Vegan Beauty.
With the acquisition the company then decided which popular items to keep as part of the brand, and which to discontinue. Mostly, it seemed that it got rid of fragrances which did not fully embrace the ethos of KVD Vegan Beauty.
Is Kat Von D Saint perfume discontinued?
Kat Von D’s most popular fragrance from the 2010s arguably has to be the Saint and Sinner fragrances. The fragrances were usually sold as a pack of two to support the branding and intention of the brand.
However, the fragrances have had a tumultuous journey through their history. Seeking information on the release of the brand would suggest that the fragrances were released in 2017. However, this is actually not factual.
Technically, the release of the fragrances in that year was a reintroduction of the fragrances. This is as Saint and Sinner was first introduced to the market in 2009.
A few years later the brand would discontinue the fragrance. A fact which marked the first time that the fragrances would be removed from the shelves.
However, in 2017, which is suggested as the official release date for the fragrances, they were reintroduced to the market.
From reports at the time, the announcement of the return of the fragrance was confirmed in 2016, a year before the company reintroduced the fragrances back to the market. But the fragrances would be indefinitely cancelled back in 2020.
Following the acquisition of Kat Von D’s entire beauty and makeup brand by Kendo Brands, one of the first products to have been cancelled was the Saint and Sinner fragrances.
No word on the reason for the decision was shared with the public.
What did Saint and Sinner smell like?
Saint and Sinner as fragrances were aptly named as they embody the essence of being a saint or a sinner. Therefore, a look at note profile and other details of the fragrances includes:
| Perfume | Saint | Sinner |
| Classification | Amber floral fragrance for women | Amber floral fragrance for women |
| Top notes | Mirabelle and clary sage | Plum, orange blossom and mandarin orange |
| Middle notes | Almond blossom, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley | Cinnamon, jasmine and white flowers |
| Base notes | Peach, vanilla, musk and cedar | Patchouli, vanilla, musk and vetiver |
Was Saint and Sinner reformulated?
With the return of the Saint and Sinner fragrances back in 2017, it does seem that Kat Von D opted to tweak the note profiles of the original formulation of both fragrances.
Moreover, besides the reformulation of the fragrances, Kat Von D also changed the bottles of the fragrances.
Initially designed as grey for Saint and red for Sinner glass bottles which were etched and complemented by the bottle cap which mimicked the design of the bottle.
The new bottle was a more rounded bottle which was covered with three-dimensional filigree details, which Kat Von D herself designed. A look at the original note profiles includes:
| Perfume | Saint | Sinner |
| Classification | Amber floral fragrance for women | Amber floral fragrance for women |
| Top notes | Mandarin orange and mirabelle | Plum, mandarin orange and African orange flower |
| Middle notes | Caramel, jasmine and tiare flower | Cinnamon, jasmine and white flowers |
| Base notes | Vanilla, sandalwood and musk | Patchouli, vanilla, musk, noodsy notes and vetiver |
Can I still buy Saint and Sinner by Kat Von D?
The beauty about fragrances which have been recently discontinued is that it is easier to find them on online stores and physical outlets.
This is as the fragrances might be discontinued by the company, but the stock which was already delivered to retailers and online stores is still there until it is sold out.
This is evident with the Sinner, which is still available for purchase on Amazon for $64.55 for a 100ml bottle.
The Saint bottle is also still available for $199.99 for a 50 ml bottle on Amazon, with little hope that the fragrance will be available as the fragrance has been discontinued.
